Frequently Asked Questions
At Gin & Jack, we believe trusting someone with your pets and home should feel personal. We're Gin and Jack, a husband-and-wife team who own and personally provide the care behind every Gin & Jack service.
When you welcome us into your home, you know exactly who will be caring for your pets. One or both of us will personally carry out the care plan we've created with you, respecting your pets' personalities, routines, and everything that makes your household unique.
We've answered some common questions below so you can get to know us, our services, and what to expect when you become part of the Gin & Jack family.
-
Because with Gin & Jack, personalized care truly is personal.
We're a husband-and-wife team who started this business out of a genuine love for animals. We aren't simply managing a team of pet sitters. We're the owners, and we're the ones personally caring for your pets and home.
We take the time to get to know your pets, understand their personalities, and learn the routines that make them feel safe, happy, and loved. Whether that means an energetic walk, extra playtime, a little patience with a shy cat, or simply being a comforting presence, we tailor our care to each animal.
We intentionally keep our services personal so we can give every household the attention it deserves. For us, luxury isn't about extravagance. It's about thoughtful details, consistency, trust, and knowing your pets are being cared for by people who genuinely love what they do.
-
We will! Right now, Gin and Jack are the owners and the only pet sitters at Gin & Jack.
That means one or both of us will personally carry out your pet's customized care plan. You'll know who is entering your home, caring for your pets, and providing updates while you're away.
If we expand our team in the future, we'll carefully select individuals who share our passion for animals and meet our standards for experience, trustworthiness, professionalism, and compassionate care.
We would never introduce an additional sitter into your home without discussing it with you first.
-
Our love for animals, especially those who need a little extra patience and understanding, inspired us to create Gin & Jack.
Our backgrounds are a little different. Jack is a retired professional soccer player who also coaches youth soccer, while Gin manages a team at a technology company and works from home. Together, we bring dedication, organization, patience, and a strong appreciation for routines and personal relationships.
We've also experienced firsthand how much love, consistency, and trust matter when caring for rescued and formerly feral cats.
Gin & Jack gives us an opportunity to turn that passion into something meaningful: helping other families feel confident that their pets and homes are in caring, dependable hands.
This is more than a business to us. It's something we genuinely love doing.

Services & Personalized Pet Care
-
We love animals of all kinds! We provide personalized in-home care for cats, dogs, small animals, and even some farm animals.
Whether you have an outgoing dog, an independent cat, a shy rescue, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, or a household with several different personalities, we'd love to learn about them.
For farm animals and pets with specialized needs, we'll discuss their routines and requirements to make sure we can provide the care they deserve.
-
We offer several visit options because every pet and household is different.
Express Visit (up to 20 minutes): Essential care such as feeding, fresh water, litter box maintenance, or collecting packages. Dog walking is not included.
Signature Visit (30 minutes): Personalized care that may include feeding, playtime, companionship, litter box care, or dog walking.
Extended Signature Visit (60 minutes): Additional time for longer walks, enrichment, companionship, or more involved household routines.
Custom & Extended Care: Flexible arrangements for households needing longer visits, additional care, or overnight services.
We'll work with you to determine which option provides enough time to care for your pets and home without rushing the things that matter.
-
Absolutely! We love giving dogs opportunities to exercise, explore, and enjoy their surroundings.
Dog walking is available during qualifying visits, and we can also discuss longer walks or outings to local parks and dog parks.
We'll consider your dog's temperament, physical abilities, comfort level, and safety before planning any outings. Every adventure should be a positive experience.
-
We proudly serve Boise, Idaho, and select surrounding areas.
Because we personally provide our services, we're thoughtful about our service area and scheduling. This allows us to maintain the dependable, attentive care our clients expect.
Not sure whether you're within our service area? Just reach out! We'd be happy to discuss your location and availability.
-
We believe there's something special about allowing pets to stay in the place they know best: home.
Their favorite sleeping spots, familiar smells, feeding schedules, and everyday routines can make a big difference in their comfort while you're away.
By coming to them, we can provide companionship and care without unnecessarily disrupting their environment. And because we're already there, we can keep an attentive eye on your home, too.
-
Absolutely! Shy and formerly feral cats have a particularly special place in our hearts.
We've personally cared for rescued and feral cats, and we understand that trust isn't something you can rush.
We won't pull your cat out of hiding or force interaction. Instead, we'll respect their space, follow their routines, and give them the opportunity to approach us when they're ready.
Some cats want affection immediately. Others might spend an entire visit watching us from their favorite hiding spot. Both are perfectly okay with us.
Our priority is making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and cared for on their own terms.
-
We understand how important it is to maintain your pet's medication routine.
We'll review medication requests individually during our Meet & Greet, including administration instructions, your pet's temperament, and any special considerations.
We'll always be upfront about whether we can safely accommodate your pet's needs before confirming care.
-
Yes! Senior pets and those with special needs often benefit from familiar surroundings and consistent routines.
We'll take the time to understand mobility concerns, medications, dietary needs, and the little things that help your pet stay comfortable.
Together, we'll determine a care plan that supports their needs while maintaining as much of their normal routine as possible.
-
Yes. We can include yard pet waste cleanup as an additional service.
Whether you'd like the yard tidied while you're away or need some extra help maintaining your outdoor space, we're happy to discuss it.
Pricing depends on yard size, the number of pets, and the amount of cleanup needed. We'll confirm the details and cost in advance.
Routine litter box maintenance and habitat cleaning for small caged animals are included in their regular care plans at no additional charge.
-
We offer basic grooming, including baths and nail trims, as an additional service for pets already receiving our care. We don't offer standalone grooming appointments.
We know grooming can be stressful for some animals, especially those who are shy or still getting to know us.
We'll assess your pet's comfort level and grooming needs before agreeing to a service. We'll never force an animal into a situation that causes unnecessary stress.
Any additional fees will be discussed and confirmed in advance.
-
Of course! We're very familiar with the joys and unique routines of multi-pet households.
We understand that every animal has their own personality, preferences, and needs. Some may want lots of attention, while others prefer their independence.
We'll review your household's routines together and recommend enough time to give everyone appropriate care. Larger households may benefit from extended visits or a customized schedule.
-
We offer overnight and extended care arrangements based on availability and your household's needs.
We'll discuss your pets' routines, your expectations, and the level of care needed so we can create an arrangement that works for everyone.
As with our other services, overnight care is personally provided by Gin or Jack.
-
Yes! Caring for your home is part of the personalized service we provide.
Depending on your care plan and scheduled visit length, we can bring in mail and packages, water plants, adjust lights, check doors and windows, and keep an attentive eye on your property while you're away.
We believe peace of mind should extend beyond your pets to the home they love.
For more involved home care needs, we're happy to discuss a customized arrangement.
-
Yes! We can provide home care services even if you don't have pets.
Services may include plant watering, collecting mail and packages, and checking on your property while you're away.
We'll discuss your needs and confirm whether we can accommodate your location and schedule.
Trust, Safety & Protection
-
Yes. Gin & Jack is insured and bonded, with Expanded Pet Care Protection.
Our coverage includes liability insurance, theft bonding up to $10,000, and additional veterinary expense protection for qualifying accidental injuries.
Coverage is subject to policy terms, conditions, and limits. A copy of our insurance policy is available upon request.
-
Expanded Pet Care Protection is an additional safeguard we've chosen for pets in our care.
It provides veterinary expense coverage for qualifying accidental injuries, with applicable coverage limits of $2,500 or more, depending on the policy provisions.
We hope it's something we'll never need, but we believe being prepared is part of providing thoughtful, professional care.
-
Yes! Both of us, Gin and Jack, have completed background checks, and verification is available upon request.
As the owners and currently the only pet sitters, we believe you deserve to know exactly who you're trusting with your pets and home.
If we bring additional sitters into Gin & Jack in the future, every individual will be required to complete a background check before providing care. They'll also need to meet our standards for experience, trustworthiness, professionalism, and compassionate animal care.
-
Yes! We use professional pet care software with GPS-enabled visit tracking and check-in/check-out records.
This allows us to document our visits and provide an additional level of transparency.
We believe you should feel confident knowing your pets are receiving the care we've committed to providing.
-
Your pet's health and safety will always be a priority for us.
Our Pet CPR and First Aid training helps prepare us to recognize and respond to emergencies.
If we notice signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior, we'll contact you promptly and follow the emergency instructions we've established together in your pet's care plan.
If veterinary attention is needed, we'll coordinate with your designated veterinarian or an emergency veterinary facility, as appropriate.
We'll keep you informed throughout the process. We know how much your pets mean to you, and we'll treat their well-being with the same seriousness and compassion we would want for our own.
-
We'll discuss your preferred home access arrangements during our Meet & Greet and document them in your care instructions.
We can accommodate traditional keys, secure lockboxes, smart locks, and electronic access codes.
Lockboxes can be especially convenient because they allow secure access without exchanging keys before every visit. We provide lockboxes at no additional cost.
Whatever method you prefer, we'll follow your instructions for entering, securing, and leaving your property.
Because we're currently the only sitters, you'll know it's Gin or Jack accessing your home.
-
We know travel doesn't always go according to plan!
If your return is delayed, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll make every reasonable effort to accommodate additional visits or extended care, depending on our availability. We will work together to make sure your pets are cared for.
Our goal is to help ensure your pets continue receiving the care they need until you're safely home.
-
Absolutely! We know how reassuring it is to see how your pets are doing when you're away.
We'll share visit updates, photos, and messages through our client portal.
Whether your dog enjoyed a walk, your cat spent time playing, or your shy rescue preferred a peaceful afternoon in their favorite hiding spot, we'll let you know how things went.
And because we're the ones personally providing the care, your updates come directly from Gin or Jack.
-
You'll be able to communicate directly with us through our secure client portal.
You can share instructions, ask questions, and receive updates in one convenient place.
We believe good communication is an essential part of excellent pet care, and we want you to feel comfortable reaching out whenever you need us.

You can maintain their profile and care instructions through our client portal, including feeding routines, medications, emergency contacts, and other important details.
Please keep us informed of any changes so we can continue providing the consistent, personalized care your pet deserves.
-
We understand that inviting someone into your home involves a great deal of trust.
We use a secure client portal to manage pet profiles, care instructions, scheduling, communications, and invoices.
We treat information about your home, pets, and personal routines with care and discretion. Respecting your privacy is part of the trust you place in us.
